Summer Theatre Academy


Sumer Theatre Academy performances will be July 17 and 18 at Washtenaw Community College.

The Summer Theatre Academy runs daily from 9:00am to 3:45pm from Monday July 6th 2015 through Friday July 17th 2015. Performances will be on Friday July 17th and Saturday July 18th at Washtenaw Community College. The cost per student is $450, with $150 due with registration. Bring a brown bag lunch.

Our well-established Summer Theatre Academy has been described by participants as "a unique friendship group" and "a way to change yourself". Come and join us for summer fun and special friendships whilst expanding your ideas and theatre skills. Join daily morning workshops by YAG faculty in a variety of performing arts. Afternoon sessions will be rehearsals for a full-length production to be performed at Washtenaw Community College. Reserve your space in this friendly student focused theatre academy early.

Group 1 - Beginners

(Grades 2 - 5) Follow Your Dreams
Imagine Take an idea; explore it.
Develop Color the idea with acting, movement, music, art, and creative writing.
Create characters, adventures, sets, and costumes.
Celebrate with a performance of your play.

Group 2 - Apprentices

(Grades 5 - 8) The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf
Imagine a different view of the well known story: is the wolf a villain or a victim?.
Develop Try out ideas for your production through improvisation, scene work, and character study. Add movement, voice, and music to enhance these ideas.
Create Design costumes and sets. Learn how to run a production.
Celebrate with a performance of your production.

Group 3 - Journey Folk

(Grades 6 - 9) Romeo and Juliet
Imagine far away and long ago in fair Verona.
Develop a clear understanding of the lines, interpret the ideas, and portray the feelings of all the characters through movement, voice, and other acting skills that will make the story "live".
Create an astonishing performance, which every year has audiences amazed at what the actors have achieved.
Celebrate: Share your performance.

Group 4 - Crafters

(Grades 9 and up) Play to be determined by number of students enrolled.
Imagine a summer performance ensemble that offers the opportunity to participate and study theatre from several different angles. The script will be chosen as students sign up so that everyone will have the right opportunity for them.
Develop the script through improvisation, exploring background, character study, scene work and more advanced acting skills, including self directing, if you wish.
Create a full-length performance that you will remember, complete with costumes, sets, and technical theatre.
Celebrate: share your creation in a full-length performance
